Start with the job of each view

For each location, write down what staff need to see and when they need to see it. Note the distance, mounting options, lighting changes, and anything that may block the view. Wireless connectivity, analytics, and cloud management are system features to evaluate alongside camera selection. Ask how equipment receives power, where recordings are stored, who can access them, what ongoing subscriptions apply, and what happens during an internet outage. List any required integrations and have compatibility confirmed for the proposed models and software versions.

For analytics, define a specific event and an acceptable review process. Request a trial using representative activity and lighting before relying on an alert. For recording, confirm the required retention period, retrieval steps, and export process with the people who will use the system.
